We met Morena in January, 2016. We were so touched by her story that it has been constantly on our minds. Every day, Morena goes to the hospital and cares for people there who don’t have family to care for them. When it is time for them to be discharged, she brings them to her “home” if they are not well enough to care for themselves. She earns her very meager living by baking corn bread and selling it. She takes great pride in her home and has a huge heart.
We would like to raise enough to build her a new home which she can care for the sick which is her greatest desire. You can see from the picture where she lives now. One of our criteria in choosing homes with Dominican Starfish Foundation is to choose people who spend their time helping others, despite their own desperate needs.
