Education

In the Dominican Republic, many children are unable to attend school simply because they can’t afford the basics. Through our education initiatives — including support for students at the Youth Upliftment School — we’re empowering young people with the tools they need to succeed.
Sponsoring a child for $40 a month will give them uniforms and school supplies, make sure they have ways to get to school, help pay for medication when needed, provide them with a hot lunch and help pay for the operations of the school.
Student Sponsorship

If you have chosen a child from a social media post, please include their name in the notes section when you use the donate button. If you would like a list of children to choose from, you can message dominicanstarfish@gmail.com and request a list. If you would like a tax receipt, include your email address and mailing address in the notes section as well.

Our other education initiatives
SCHOOL REBUILDING AND SUPPORT
We’ve supported the rebuilding of schools and playgrounds in communities like Maggiolo — including the one pictured here — and built a library that serves El Estrecho and El Luperón. These spaces offer safe, welcoming environments that inspire learning, creativity, and personal growth.

VOLUNTEER ENGLISH PROGRAM
Through our volunteer-led English programs, we’re giving students the opportunity to develop valuable language skills that open doors to future education and employment in an increasingly globalized world.
The Impact
of Education on Poverty
Education is a powerful catalyst for change. According to UNESCO, if all adults completed secondary education, the global poverty rate could be reduced by more than half. (concernusa.org)
Furthermore, each additional year of schooling can increase an individual's earnings by approximately 10%, with even higher returns for women. (pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov)
