Shelter

In the Dominican Republic, many families live in unsafe, overcrowded, or unstable shelters that offer little protection from the elements. Since 2013, the Dominican Starfish Foundation has built over 250 homes for families in need — each one made with high-quality concrete to ensure strength, durability, and lasting security. Our homes are built by skilled local construction workers, creating jobs and empowering communities.
Organizing fundraisers for each project has been a big task. To simplify and streamline the process, we’re launching the Dominican Starfish Home-Building Club!

Who we are
Dominican Starfish Foundation is a registered charity helping the poor and needy in the Dominican Republic. Our name comes from the “Starfish Story” of a boy throwing starfish into the ocean to save them. Poverty is an all-reaching pandemic, but we are helping to save one family and one individual at a time. Thus, our slogan,
“Made a Difference to That One.”
What makes us unique
100% of your donations go to the projects in the Dominican Republic. We employ local workers, teaching valuable skills, and helping to support families with employment.
How you can help
We started building homes in the Dominican Republic in 2013. We’ve currently helped with over 250 homes. The average cost for Dominican Starfish homes is $15,000 US. Sponsoring fundraisers for each project has been a giant task. To simplify and help automate this process, we are introducing Dominican Starfish Home-Building Club! We invite you to participate! It is our goal to have enough members in our club, who donate a recurring monthly amount, to be able to build one home per month in the Dominican Republic. Monthly donations can be from $10 to the Sky’s Limit.

Why do we focus so much on home building?
A home is more than four walls — it’s the keystone that supports everything else. With a safe and stable place to live, families can focus on education, finding steady employment, improving health, and building a brighter future. A secure home gives children a place to study, parents the chance to work, and entire communities the opportunity to thrive.
The Power of a New Home
These before-and-after photos show just how powerful a secure home can be. In place of an unstable, unsafe "house", families now have a strong, dignified home, built with love and care by the support of generous donors like you.
This isn’t just about buildings — it’s about restoring hope, rebuilding lives, and creating a foundation for the future.
