Continuing the Mission of Giving

Writer: Louise ZoBellLouise ZoBell

Today, we distributed $7,500 to people in need. Over the past week, we raised $6,000 for Rosario to help finish her home, and we met her at the gate to deliver the funds. She was deeply moved and cried in gratitude. We’ve set a plan for her to open her house on March 1st, and I will be there to celebrate this milestone.

We also raised $800 to assist a family with a baby in need of surgery. The grandmother, who works as a housekeeper at the resort, was overwhelmed with emotion when we gave her the money. The surgery was eventually avoided as the baby’s health began to improve, and the raised funds were used for immediate medical expenses. The family is incredibly thankful.

Another key moment today was supporting Clarens, who helps us with legal matters for the Dorvil family, a Haitian family we’ve raised money to build a home for. Clarens also received a donation of medical supplies for an upcoming clinic.

In the morning, I organized clothing and donations at the villa to prepare for future trips, including delivering items to Kate and others. Sheila and Kathy’s group visited the land for the new women’s shelter and were amazed by the progress made in the past two weeks. They also visited Kate and conducted "girl’s club" activities with the children.

During a lunch with Kim and Katrina, Katrina started reading my book and discovered a familiar name – Tamara Fackrell – who is close friends with her sister. It's always a small world!

Later, we said our goodbyes to Walt and Roxane, who are heading back to North Carolina before moving to Florida. They’ve been incredibly generous, recently sending $11,400 to cover commitments they’ve made in the past few weeks. Their support is a huge blessing for us and the families we help.

Erin and Brent Christensen arrived at the villa today, and we were thrilled to welcome them. They are staying in the master suite upstairs and are excited to be here.

In the evening, we had dinner at Jazz with friends, and it was a nice chance to catch up. Dale and Joyce are leaving tomorrow, so we spent time playing games together.

Our work continues, and we remain so grateful for the support from our amazing partners and friends. Every day brings us closer to our mission of improving lives in the Dominican Republic.
