Darielis
We asked Darielis to take us into her home that she lives in with her family. Darielis’s home was small and fragile, with thin walls, a leaking roof, and a dirt floor that turned to mud in the rain. It offered little security, but her family remained hopeful for a better future. Thanks to Dominican Starfish Foundation, that hope became reality—a safe, sturdy home where they can now live with dignity and comfort.
Yazira (Yera)
We went to visit Yazira (Yera) living with her parents and three children. Her husband was part of the crew on a fishing boat caught fishing in international waters. All of the crew was jailed. Her father has severe neuropathy caused by diabetes and deals with open wounds on his legs and feet. You can see the blood stained floor around where he sits. We have been providing money for medicine to help and he has been improving but they are eight people living in this small home supported by the mother’s small income the makes on some days cleaning homes.
Grace
Grace receives the life-changing news that she will be receiving a new home, and she cannot contain her joy. Overwhelmed with gratitude and emotion, she celebrates the hope and security this gift brings to her family’s future. Watch her incredible reaction!
Luis Miguel
Luis Miguel, a member of the Dominican Starfish Foundation, shares his experience of delivering nearly 2,000 food packs to families who hadn’t eaten in days during the COVID-19 pandemic.
